The Magic of the Chakra System Part 1 - The Root Chakra
The Root Chakra (Muladhara) is the first of the seven primary chakras, or energetic centres, in the body. It is associated with grounding, stability, safety and survival.
As a Sound Healer working with the root is a powerful way to open and close a session allowing your clients to settle comfortably into their body before and after the experience. It is also important to note that the root, when open and in balance, supports all other 6 chakras so if someone is experiencing imbalance anywhere in the body, the root is always where we start. Safety and grounding are always our number one priority as healers.
Here are some of the key aspects of the Root Chakra.
Color:
Red: The root chakra is typically depicted in a deep red color, symbolizing energy, vitality, and physical grounding.
Element:
Earth: The root chakra is connected to the element of Earth, representing physical stability, stable foundations, and a sense of security or being “rooted into the earth” much like the roots of trees. It governs your connection to the physical world and your sense of groundedness and physical/energetic/emotional safety.
Location:
Base of the Spine: The root chakra is located at the base of the spine, near the coccyx (tailbone area) and encompasses the pelvic floor, genitals, anus and perineum.
Symbolism and Function:
The root chakra is considered the foundation of your energy system. It's linked to your sense of security, survival instincts, and basic needs like food, shelter, and safety. When balanced, it helps you feel stable, secure, and connected to the physical world. If it’s blocked or out of balance, you might experience feelings of insecurity, fear, or instability or feelings of being “disconnected from your body”. This can be experienced after traumatic or stressful events. Therefore, working with the root is a powerful way to initiate healing.
Mantra:
Lam: The sound vibration associated with the root chakra is "Lam," which is said to help balance and activate this energy center.
Affirmations for Root Chakra:
"I am grounded and secure."
"I trust my body."
"I am safe and protected."
The root chakra is the foundation for all the other chakras, so maintaining its balance is essential for overall well-being.
